CHOICE Training which is based in Dagenham has recently announced its support of the research-led campaign to ‘Get Girls Plumbing'. The training college is offering four lucky ladies the chance to pursue a career in plumbing.

Female plumbers-to-be simply need to write 100 words outlining why they would like to win a free place on the course. The four candidates will then be selected by a judging panel made up from the college board of directors, the winners will be announced in time to start at the beginning of next term.

There is NO AGE RESTRICTION and entry is completely free. The end result of the course is a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing.

Historically females are severely underrepresented in plumbing, constituting just one percent of the industry at present. The successful applicants will not only become City & Guilds Level 2 Qualified but they will also receive wider training including business tools and marketing.

Jon Cruddas who is an advocate of all apprenticeship schemes locally, has supported the work of CHOICE Training since it was established. They provide the young people of the borough with an applicable alternative to further education, increasing chances of employment in a wide variety of fields.

Jon said: "I think the ‘Get Girls Plumbing' campaign is a big step towards gaining equal representation in the field, and commend Choice Training for supporting the project. I would encourage local women interested in the plumbing industry to get in touch with the training college to grab this opportunity."
