Beam Park prison campaign update

The campaign against the prison is well underway, Jon Cruddas's campaign team have been working hard to ensure that the proposals have not been slipped in through the back door. With the help of volunteers Jon's office has been sending out leaflets to raise awareness at local train stations and other public places, the story has been taken up by the Barking and Dagenham Post who will be providing exclusive coverage as the campaign develops, and the story is starting to build momentum with the national press which is helping us to gain wider support.

Jon Cruddas MP and Barking and Dagenham Council Leader Liam Smith are due to meet Sir Edward Lister, chief of staff and deputy mayor for planning and policy, at the Mayor's Office next week. The meeting should hopefully shed some light onto the exact details of the proposals.

A petition has been raised by Jon Cruddas with the support of the Council and is presently circulating the constituency. In the week since the plans were released we have distributed petitions to over 40 local businesses to collect signatures. And there is now an online petition available on Jon's website. In addition to this we are doing all we can to raise local awareness and would appreciate the help of residents, you can join the fight and help the campaign in a number of ways – see below for more details.
