Mayor of London's Transport Strategy Consultation

Reshaping transport in London is a priority for the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who wants to create a city that accommodates for all Londoners. The new draft Mayor's Transport Strategy sets out his plans to transform London's streets, improve public transport and create opportunities for new homes and jobs over the next 25 years. The strategy sets to build on the vision for a better London that the Mayor outlined in ‘A City for All Londoners’, and takes forward the approach set out in ‘Healthy Streets for London’.

Jon Cruddas MP calls for energy price cap

Last week Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham Rainham was contacted by John Penrose MP regarding the introduction of an energy price cap. For years big energy companies have got away with charging big energy prices, and as the winter months approach this becomes an increasing concern for vulnerable people across the country.

The people that live in Dagenham and Rainham are currently overpaying for energy by £7,360,000 meaning 25,285 families are paying £291 too much every year.

Havering College Rainham - Brand New Construction Centre

An exciting new venture is due to be approved on Thursday 21st of September, which will see plans for a new 'Construction and Infrastructure Skills and Innovation Centre', for Havering College Rainham campus. The plans will go before Havering Council’s regulatory services committee for hopefully the final time Thursday evening. The application has been on hold since April 2015, and has finally been progressed to committee, following the receipt of revised information which was received in February 2017 and April 2017.

Dagenham and Rainham unemployment statistics - August

The total number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in August 2017 was 1,630. This represents a rate of 3.2% of the economically active population aged 16-64, the 191st highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.5%.

The UK unemployment rate, which includes people not claiming benefits and is estimated from survey data, was 4.3% between May and July 2017.

London Fire Brigade - Now Recruiting Fire Cadets

London Fire Brigade are currently recruiting Fire Cadets aged 14-17 and Adult Volunteers aged 18+ at units across London.

Fire Cadets is a free, nationally recognised programme offering young people between the ages of 14 and 17 the opportunity to gain a credible qualification as well as develop their personal skills. Cadets must be able to dedicate one night a week for a fire cadets meeting - Tuesday at the Harold Hill fire station or Thursday at the Barking and Dagenham fire station depending where you live. They will also have to be prepared to work in a team.

King Georges Hospital Sterile Services Department under threat

Last week staff from the Sterile Services Department at King Georges Hospital and Queens Hospital contacted Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham regarding proposed outsourcing of services. The prime concerns centre on potential job losses and the subsequent negative impact this will have on the standard of care delivered by the Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Trust.

Five Weeks to Save Dagenham Police Station

This week the campaign to save Dagenham Police Station continues into its third month as the petition launched by Jon Cruddas MP gains over 2,500 signatures. The campaign which has gained mounting support from the public, has also seen the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council jump to the police stations defence.
