Local MP Jon Cruddas has this week thrown his support behind a campaign that aims to celebrate democracy in Dagenham and Rainham. The local MP has called on local students to take part in Parliament Week 2012, an annual national week to build greater awareness of and engagement with parliamentary democracy in the UK. Parliament Week is organised by the House of Commons and House of Lords and takes place between 19-25 November.

Reassurances about the future of engine production at the Ford factory in Dagenham are being sought by Unite, the largest union in the country.

The Ford plant in Dagenham currently makes 300,000 Puma engines for transit vehicles which will cease production in the near future.
