August Unemployment Statistics for Dagenham & Rainham

The total number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in August 2016 was 1,612. This represents a rate of 3.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 174th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.4%.

The uneven impact of welfare reform – a new report

Last month a new report was published using research from Sheffield Hallam University, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Oxfam. The report highlights the effects of pre-2015 welfare reforms and the anticipated impact of further reform across the United Kingdom. It is estimated that new reforms will take in the region of £13bn a year from claimants by 2020-21.

The total number of Jobseeker's Allowance claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in April 2015 was 1,644. This represents a rate of 3.3% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 187th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The percentage of unemployed claimants in the constituency is proportionally higher than the average for London which rests at 2.7% of the population.

MP responds to media coverage of Dagenham burglary statistics

It has recently been reported in the media that Dagenham, RM8, is the worst place for burglaries in London. Barking and Dagenham Police work very closely with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to tackle this key partnership priority, reducing burglaries and targeting offenders. 

Over the past 12 months (1, January - 31 December, 2014) Dagenham has seen a 27% reduction in burglaries, down from 898 to 628 offences and is in line with a reduction in burglary across London.

The latest statistics are very positive and could mark a turning point in the local economy. This month Dagenham and Rainham has the lowest rate of claimants since 2010. However there is still work to be done.

The number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in January 2013 was 3,509. This represents a rate of 7.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 126th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment.) This figure fluctuated in December 2012 but in comparison to November 2012 there has been improvement.
