Eastbrook public meeting 02.12.2015

In the last few days volunteers have delivered surveys to half of the Eastbrook area, and they are being returned to Jon Cruddas MP in the hundreds. The survey was a response to rumours surrounding the possible development of land at the May and Baker Community Club. The consultation survey asks what residents think about the future of Dagenham East in terms of job creation and economic stability.

Today Jon Cruddas MP launched his public consultation of Eastbrook Ward, to find out what people think of recent proposals to build a mosque on the May and Baker Community Club land, next to the Sanofi regeneration site. In the most recent discussions with the trustees a prayer room in the community club has been alluded to rather than the initial plans for a mosque. However, a final decision has not yet been made on the future of the site. As with all developments in the local area Jon wants to know what the local residents think.

Save local policing in London

On September the 29th the Metropolitan Police Management Board was due to take a decision on the future of PCSOs in the capital. Since 2010 Boris Johnson has presided over harrowing cuts to London’s Met seeing 2,443 police officers and 3,170 PCSOs vanish from our streets. The impact is starting to show with a rise in violent crime of 24 per cent in the last 12 months.

Re use New Home Furniture and Electricals

DABD (uk) Re-Use Centre is based at Woodward Road, Dagenham.

DABD (uk) accept donations of furniture & can collect if necessary. DABD are only able to take good quality furniture as it will be redistributed at low cost to support local residents on low income or facing crisis. Furniture will be inspected upon collection.

DABD (uk) work with LBBD Voids team to recycle goods from vacant properties. The purpose of the Centre is to make use of furniture as well as divert goods from landfill.

CHCC Autumn Fair

It’s been almost a year since the Robert Jeyes Library was transformed into the Chadwell Heath Community Centre. Over the past 12 months the centre has become a hub for the local community and has held many fantastic events, including a visit this summer by her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip.

Dagenham Civic Centre Candlelight Vigil

On Thursday 19th March Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham held a candle lit vigil at the Dagenham Civic Centre in a bid to protect the building which is in danger of falling victim to the cuts.

Hundreds of local residents gathered on the steps of Dagenham’s Civic Centre to make a stand against the proposal to turn the historic 1937 art deco monument into a school.

Dagenham Civic Centre – Candlelight Vigil 19.03.2015

On Thursday 19th March Jon Cruddas MP and the people of Dagenham, alongside the women from the 1968 strikes at Dagenham Ford will be making a final stand in the fight to Save the Dagenham Civic Centre. Candles will be provided and the vigil will start on the steps of the Civic Centre at 6.30pm.

Jon Cruddas is calling on the whole community to come together in solidarity in a bid to not only protect the 550 jobs at stake, but also to ensure that the most iconic part of the community’s heritage isn’t callously sold off.

It was confirmed in December that the Civic Centre is to be converted into a school as a savings measure. Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham has launched a large scale community campaign to fight the plans.

Jon Cruddas MP takes prison petition to Downing Street

On Wednesday 29th October Jon Cruddas and a small delegation of people took the 10,000 strong petition against the prison plans to Downing Street. The campaign started 18 months ago and Jon Cruddas has said that with the Ministry of Justice still not ruling us out, the fight continues.

Grand Opening of the Chadwell Heath Community Centre

After several weeks of refurbishment, Saturday 04th October saw the grand opening of the Robert Jeyes Chadwell Heath Community Centre. The centre still has all the fantastic library facilities but with added services, bringing all aspects of the community into one place. New services include; an Active Age Centre, a Children’s Centre, Green Shoes Arts will also be based in the Centre, along with food collection services to support the local food banks.
