Local volunteer features in World Delirium Day webinar

The office of Jon Cruddas MP is excited to announce that one of its star volunteers, Janis Cottee, will be participating in a webinar for Dementia and Older People’s Mental Health this upcoming Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 from 12:00 – 13:00 in honour of World Delirium Day.

Janis, who has gone from strength to strength at Jon’s office, has also been invited to speak at numerous public events on the subject of dementia over the last few years – relaying her own personal story.

Young Carers

Young Carers are young people aged 8-18 years who care for a relative.

They may live in a family where someone is affected by a long term illness, disability, mental health issue, alcohol or substance misuse or HIV. The Young Carers Service supports Young Carers in Barking & Dagenham and Thurrock. Carers' Week 2016

Last week was Carers’ Week all around the UK. Carers’ week is a week of recognition dedicated to all the help and support that carers provide for their charges. It doesn’t matter if the carers are professionals, or if they a friends and family looking after a loved one. This week is all about raising awareness of the valuable contribution these people having in the community, alongside promoting the support that carers of all ages might need.

Jon Signs Up For Dementia Action Alliance's Carers Call To Action

This week Jon Cruddas MP signed up to the Dementia Action Alliance’s Carers Call to Action.

At least 670,000 people in England have dementia and this number is set to double in the next 30 years. It is estimated that at least 550,000 people act as primary carers to those suffering from Dementia. Caring for a loved one with dementia is one of life’s hardest challenges. Despite their numbers and needs, carers tend to become isolated and if support is given, it is often provided late.

On Wednesday evening Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham attended a reception at Westminster. The reception was for the Community Nurses of Saint Francis Hospice.
