For the past few months local residents of Dagenham have been voicing their opinions and concerns over the fate of the Dagenham Heathway Post Office. The Heathway Post Office is a bustling centre and is one of the very few in the borough still owned by the Post Office.

There are many rumours circulating that the Post Office are looking for a retail partner to take over the branch. This could well mean an end to the exceptional service currently delivered by the staff, services and counter space would be diminished. In a recent report, postal watch dog Consumer Focus criticised the performance of Post Offices franchised to W H Smith. They were the worst performer on queue times, and scored badly on quality of service and accessibility. This is not the fate we want for our Post Office.

The branch is well used, with many local residents passing through its doors every day.

Bosses have previously stated that none of the 15 staff members’ jobs would be at risk but Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham and Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, Liam Smith are seeking reassurances from the central Post Office.

A petition has now been raised to oppose the selling off of the Crown Post Office at Dagenham Heathway. Jon Cruddas MP and the Post Office workers are urging local residents to support the cause.
