CHCC proposed opening times and call for volunteers

With growing local interest in the Chadwell Heath Community Centre Anne Estlea recently attended Jon Cruddas's annual volunteer breakfast morning. It was a great chance for Anne to highlight the progress and plans for the centre to local volunteers and Jon.

Jon, who is now a trustee of the CHCC said: "It was great to finally meet Anne, she is very driven and I can see she will get things done, bringing constant growth and improvement to the new centre. I can't wait to see the Community Centre when the refurbishment is finished in October and it is up and running.

"Being run by volunteers, this is yet another testament to what the people of Dagenham can achieve when they get stuck in. I hope many more will get involved once the Community Centre opens."

Opening times have just been drawn up for when the centre is finished; these will be:

  • Monday: 10 - 5pm
  • Tuesday: 10 - 5pm
  • Wednesday: 10 - 5pm
  • Thursday: 10 - 7pm
  • Friday: Closed
  • Saturday: 10 - 4pm

There will be Community Library Team librarians attached to the Centre giving support and assistance to the public and the community library volunteers on set days during opening hours, which will be decided by LBBD.

During the times the CHCC is not able to provide community library volunteers, the library will be self-service. The training for volunteers who expressed an interest is in progress now, and both the centre and Jon Cruddas are encouraging as many more people to offer time when they can.

The goal is to have the Centre accessible for residents and users by Monday 25th September, with the launch by the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham on Saturday 4th October at 12 midday.

These dates are provisional at the moment, as unforeseen circumstances have to be taken into account. So please check back on Jon's website for updates.

Residents started the process to retain the building for the community, and now, with the support of LBBD Council, there is a wonderful facility to look forward to, and develop for the benefit of the Chadwell Heath community.

To help and make sure this happens, and continues to do so for many years to come, don't hesitate to contact Anne and volunteer.
