Dagenham Police Station back on chopping block

In 2013, following a community campaign and petition, Jon Cruddas MP successfully protected Dagenham Police Station from closure, when it came under threat from then Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Today it has come to light that in the next £400m round of government cuts to the Metropolitan Police, the Rainham Road South station is yet again under threat of closure.

Anglesey Drive Parking Outrage

On 13th of July Jon Cruddas MP and Havering Coordinator Fay Hough visited Anglesey Drive, in Rainham to discuss the ongoing parking concerns. The biggest issue is with commuters using Rainham c2c station parking down the road. Anglesey Drive currently has single yellow lines, and the parking signs state no parking between 8:30am - 9:30am. Residents have explained that commuters wait until after 9:30am to park before heading to work, and the situation on this very narrow road is becoming untenable.

Dagenham Jobcentre under threat of closure

The proposed closure of the Dagenham Jobcentre was confirmed recently by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). The closure, which was announced in January, advised the Dagenham and Barking jobcentre offices to merge to provide, as they comment, “a more efficient service.” This merger will bring the Barking offices from 44 percent capacity to over 90 percent, along with some employees moving from East Ham.

Dovers Green Saved

On the 30th June 2017 Woolbro Homes, which hoped to develop 30 two and three-bed houses on Dovers Green in South Hornchurch, withdrew its application. This is fantastic news for the residents surrounding Dovers Green and is proof of what can be accomplished when the community comes together.

Dagenham and Rainham June Unemployment Figures

The total number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in June 2017 was 1,690. This represents a rate of 3.3% of the economically active population aged 16-64, the 175th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.5%.

The UK unemployment rate, which includes people not claiming benefits and is estimated from survey data, was 4.5% between March and May 2017.

30% Rise in Temporary Accommodation Access in Havering

The national housing crisis continues to worsen in the capital. According to recently collected data, there are currently 738 houses in Havering that have been purposefully built for temporary accommodation, including 80 places in hostels. This is a 30 percent increase over the past 5 years, with 3 million pounds spent towards these temporary accommodations. 

Family Fun Day at Mayesbrook Park

Are you looking for a local event for you and your family this summer? The Family Adventures Fun Day is an event being hosted by Barking and Dagenham Council. The local authority, over the last few years, have run events that celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the borough. The events are designed to celebrate the diversity in the community.

DAGFEST 2017

This year’s local summer festival is right around the corner! The third annual DAGFEST is coming to Dagenham Village on Saturday 15th July. DAGFEST serves to bring music, street theatre, dance, and outdoor activities together for all families to enjoy. The Mayor of Dagenham, Barking and Dagenham Councillors, and Jon Cruddas MP have all attended the event in the past and highly encourage residents to attend.
