Jon Cruddas MP supports Alzheimer’s Society’s general election campaign

On Tuesday 17 March Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas pledged to make this election memorable by taking action to support the 850,000 people living with dementia across the UK.

Jon Cruddas joined over 200 other MPs and representatives from Alzheimer’s Society in Westminster to meet people with dementia and commit to support those affected by the condition. On the day, Jon supported Alzheimer’s Society’s general election campaign that is calling for more people to get the dementia diagnosis they need and for everyone to be properly supported afterwards. 

Dagenham Civic Centre Candlelight Vigil

On Thursday 19th March Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham held a candle lit vigil at the Dagenham Civic Centre in a bid to protect the building which is in danger of falling victim to the cuts.

Hundreds of local residents gathered on the steps of Dagenham’s Civic Centre to make a stand against the proposal to turn the historic 1937 art deco monument into a school.

Local MP Jon Cruddas fights the Bedroom Tax

Recent statistics have highlighted that the effect of the Bedroom Tax locally is set to increase. Local MP Jon Cruddas is in full support of the Labour Party’s promise to abolish the hated ‘Tax’.

As of August 2014, 671 families in Dagenham and Rainham were paying the Bedroom Tax according to the Department of Work and Pensions statistics.

Jon Cruddas celebrates local volunteer’s new baby girl

Jon Cruddas visited a community volunteer Sebastian Iheaka last Friday to celebrate the birth of his new baby girl. Mr Iheaka, an active member of his local community has been responsible for driving a number of community campaigns in recent years.

 His wife, Susan, who gave birth to the baby girl, Chizaram, on February 19th, was full of praise for QueensHospital where she delivered the new bundle of joy.

Sheltered accommodation kept in touch with new post box

With the help of Jon Cruddas, elderly residents living at the Wyhill Walk Sheltered Housing area in Dagenham have secured additional post box facilities.

The decision by the Royal Mail group to grant the post box is great news for the residents who were previously forced to walk a distance to post any letters. The newly installed box will enable many to keep in touch with relatives and receive important post where previously they simply could not.

Local MP calls for more action on dementia

Jon Cruddas has called for greater support to be provided for families affected by dementia. In a visit to the Barking and Dagenham Alzheimer society last Friday 27th March, Jon spoke to staff about the immense challenges faced by those caring for people with dementia.

With the country’s population ageing over recent decades, the disease has been touching the lives of more and more families. There are now 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and by 2025, this will have risen to 1 million.
