MP slams 1 per cent above inflation fare hikes

Over the past few weeks constituents have been raising their concerns, and voicing their outrage regarding the recent announcement by Transport for London and the government to increase rail fares in January next year. Many Londoners are already struggling to make ends meet and this is another increase to their already high cost of living.

CHCC awarded £10,000 by the Big Lottery Fund

It has recently been announced that the Chadwell Heath Community Centre is to receive a £10,000 donation as part of the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

The remarkable donation will be used to purchase furniture and equipment, and will go towards ensuring that residents have access to a wide range of varied activities and events when the new centre opens in September.

GCSE and A Level results in Dagenham & Rainham

The results for A Level and GCSE students in Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park are now in. There has been a resounding success across the local area with young people acheiveing better results than last year.

Local MP Jon Cruddas was very pleased to hear the news and commented: “I would like to extend a massive congratulations to all of the students that received their A-Level and GCSE results over the last two weeks. From what I see the pass rates have been fantastic, showing a marked improvement on previous years.

Consultation on making intermediate care better

Recently the Havering and Barking & Dagenham Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) contacted Jon Cruddas about their launch of a public consultation in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge on ‘making intermediate care better’. Intermediate care is the specialised care that is provided to people in their own homes to prevent them from needing to go or stay longer in hospitals. These services can also be provided in residential homes and community rehab units.

South Havering residents - overlooked by council again

Over the past two weeks Jon Cruddas’s community volunteers have been out in South Hornchurch, seeing what the residents have to say about the local area. It was brought to Jon’s attention by residents on Blacksmiths Lane, Gainsborough Road, Guysfield Drive, Grove Park Road and Avelon Road that the road surfaces are in a constantly deteriorating state of disrepair.

Dagenham and Rainham unemployment stats: July

The number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in July 2014 was 2,051. This represents a rate of 4.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 168th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment.)

Ingrebourne Hill waste dispute continues

The recent purchase of land at Ingrebourne Hill from the council has led to the extension of the existing waste fill site, which residents opposed at the time of its introduction. Residents and politicians from the community were sceptical of the land changing hands to Ingrebourne Valley Ltd from the start due to it being one of few untouched green spaces in the local area.

War Memorial outrage in Rainham

August 4th marked the 100th anniversary of the day Britain entered the First World War. Across the country people came together to remember the fallen men and women who fought from 4th August 1914 – 11th November 1918 in one of the most costly conflicts in history. Over 800,000 lives were lost, many coming from Dagenham and Rainham.
