Jon Cruddas MP Slams Barclays Overdraft Charges

Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas today slammed Barclays bank for increasing the charges customers face when they find themselves overdrawn; which has led to some customers paying nearly 10% of their weekly income on overdraft fees.

Barclays bank currently charges 17.77% interest when customers are overdrawn however the bank plans to change this to a per day fee of 75 pence between balances of £16 and £1000.

Remember the Robert Jeyes Library? After local Ward Councillors and various charity groups campaigned hard for the library to stay open and continue providing its services earlier this year, we have some more great news! It is now being converted into the Chadwell Heath Community Centre (CHCC), and will provide more services to the local community on top of those the library used to provide.

Melville & Cowper Road Parking Update

Jon Cruddas MP recently undertook a survey in Melville Road and Cowper Road in Rainham regarding the problems residents were facing trying to park in their own road. Many residents complained to Jon that commuters using Rainham Rail Station use Melville and Cowper Road to park their cars up before heading to work and leave them there till late in the evening resulting in residents not be able to park in their own road.

GP Funding Boost for Dagenham and Rainham

GP’s in Barking and Dagenham and Havering, with the support of local MP Jon Cruddas, have successfully applied for a £5.6M grant to implement improved access to services and to further support complex care needs.   

This additional funding will help services look at how best to meet the needs of patients. As everyone knows, local health services are under real pressure, and GPs are determined to do their bit to help improve care for patients in the local community.

Skills Show at BDC

Barking and Dagenham College (BDC) will be hosting a skills show experience on the 30th April. If you are between 14 -25 years old and thinking about the next steps into employment or your future career path, this is an event for you.

The free event is linked to The Skills Show which is the nation’s largest career and skills event and gives young people from East London a taste of the national event on their doorstep.

Leys Breakfast Club: It's Great

Jon Cruddas MP visited Leys Primary School in Dagenham to see for himself how well the student Breakfast Club scheme, supported by Kelloggs, was running. The Leys Primary School Breakfast Club, set up under the leadership of Head teacher Mr Krog, allows youngsters to have a full breakfast before the start of the school day.

The introduction of the scheme has improved the ability of children to learn by making sure they are not hungry and able to concentrate in classes. The scheme has also been successfully utilised by working families.

Better Buses - Number 5 Bus Route Improvements

If you are a regular user of the Number 5 Bus service which runs through Dagenham, you should start seeing a better service with more frequent buses.

Route 5 is a high frequency bus service with increasing passenger numbers.
