Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls opens new Technical Skills Academy in Barking

Students and staff at Barking’s new Technical Skills Academy welcomed shadow chancellor Ed Balls MP to its official opening on Thursday 18th October. Mr Balls praised the facility along with local MP for Dagenham and Rainham, Jon Cruddas. The new facilities provide vocational training and education for young people aged 16 to 19. The £14 million centre is a joint venture between the borough council and Barking & Dagenham College.

Paralympian David Weir joins Jon Cruddas MP on judging panel for inspirational awards

Paralympic hero David Weir has joined Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham, charity campaigner Camilla Bateman-Ghelidja and Daily Mirror columnist Charlie Catchpole on the judging panel of the Sunday People's prestigious campaign to hand out a share of £40,000 to charities.

Local lad Robert Collins who is employed at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council has been selected to participate in next years London Marathon on behalf of the charity "Help A Capital Child".
